Pumpy helps UK drivers compare live petrol and diesel prices at forecourts near them quickly and accurately.
Where our data comes from
Pumpy taps directly into the official UK Government Fuel Finder database. Retailers are legally required to report their live petrol and diesel pump prices to this system within 30 minutes of any change. Our servers sync that data continuously so you see exactly what you will pay before you pull onto the forecourt.
Holding Retailers Accountable
For years, drivers have had to deal with "rocket and feather" pricing. This is when pump prices shoot up the second wholesale costs rise but take weeks to drift back down.
In 2023, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigated the market and found that lack of competition was failing drivers. They introduced the Fuel Finder scheme to force supermarket-style price transparency. According to their estimates, making this data public will save the average car-owning household around £40 a year.
Strict Rules for Forecourts
The government system went fully live in February 2026 and it is now mandatory for all UK forecourts. Retailers have to follow a strict set of reporting rules:
- Live Prices: Pump prices for every single grade sold (unleaded E10, super unleaded E5, diesel, premium diesel, etc.) must be updated within 30 minutes of the physical price changing at the station.
- Forecourt Details: Any changes to trading names, opening hours, location, or amenities must be updated within 3 days.
The grace period ended in May 2026. Since then, the CMA has been actively penalising retailers who fail to comply.

Community-Driven Accuracy
While the official data is usually spot on, local discrepancies still happen. The CMA focuses heavily on penalising stations that report one price to the API but show a higher price on their physical signs.
Because of this, Pumpy includes a built-in discrepancy reporting tool. If you spot an incorrect price or an outdated station facility, you can flag it directly in the app. This helps keep retailers honest and ensures the map stays accurate for everyone else on the road.
